The Ten Words

The Ten Words (i.e. commandments)

And spoke Ala’aym all these words saying:

1. I YA’OH, your Higher Power, the one who caused you to be brought out of from the land of Matsraym, from the house of servitude.

2. There will not be to you other gods in front of my face; you will not make to you an idol of any image which is in heaven from above, and which is in earth from beneath, and which is in the sea from beneath the earth, you will not bow to them, and you will not serve them, for I YA’OH, your Higher Power, am a jealous Higher Power, one who visits the punishment of the fathers upon the children, upon the third, and upon the fourth, to the one hating me; and doing mercy to thousands, to the one loving me; and to the one keeping my commandments.

3. You will not lift up the name YA’OH, your Higher Power, to disrespect; for YA’OH will not forgive whoever will lift up His name to disrespect.

4. Remembering the day of the shabath to set it apart. Six days will you labor and do all of your work, but the seventh day is a shabath unto YA’OH, your Higher Power. You will not do any labor, you, your son, your daughter, your manservant, and your maidservant, and your livestock, and the convert which is within your gates. For six of days made YA’OH the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything which is in them, and He rested in the seventh day. Therefore, YA’OH blessed the seventh day and made it set apart.

5. Honor your father and your mother so that your days will be lengthened upon the land which YA’OH, your Higher Power, gives to you.

6. Not will you murder.

7. Not will you fornicate.

8. Not will you steal.

9. Not will you testify against your kinsmen a false witness.

10. Not will you seek to possess the house of your kinsmen, not will you seek to possess the wife of your kinsmen, or his manservant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything which is your kinsmen’s.

There are three “do” (positive) commandments and there are seven “do not” (negative) commandments. The 1st commandment is a “do” commandment, not a “do not” commandment. What must you do?
