The Lying Pen of the Scribes?

“How will you say, ‘Wise are we and the Thorah of YA’OH is with us?’ Indeed, behold, for pretentiousness he made it. The pen, the vanity of the scribes” (Yaram-Ya’oh 8:8).

This verse does NOT say “lying pen of the scribes.” The word “lying” is a verb. The word that is actually used in the source language of this verse is a noun, shakar (שקר), which means a sham, being pretentious, false, a falsehood, or a vain thing. The nominal phrase ghat shakar saparaym (עט שקר ספרים) means “the pen, the vanity of the scribes,” where the nomen regens ghat (pen) in the construct state is in apposition with following noun shakar (vanity) which is also in the construct state.

If you understand the grammar of the prophet here then you know that the men he is talking about were not altering the holy book, as many now ignorantly claim. They were pretentious snobs who thought that because they were the ones making copies of the Thorah by hand, which is a great deal of work and does require a lot of attention to detail in order to avoid making mistakes, that their skill set made them special, more wiser, and thus more important than everyone else. The scribes in question were misusing their profession in order to create a false appearance of great importance and worth for themselves. The prophet Yaram-Ya’oh (Jeremiah) cut the vain sons of bitches to pieces by his words.

The people trying to use this verse today as proof that ancient scribes changed the bible tend to be the same people who believe that the source language that the bible was written in cannot be known at this time. Both of them lack the requisite intelligence to realize that: (a) either translations should not exist, else the source language must therefore be known (in which case the translation may be incorrect and we can check to see if this is so); or (b) all translations are faulty since the source language is supposedly not known anymore. They can’t have it both ways, but when you are dealing with a mind of below average intelligence you waste your time explaining why these are the only two options available and that they can’t have it both ways.

The scriptures were written by learned and highly educated men, and – sorry – you need to be educated and knowledgeable in order to understand their writings correctly and to be able to teach them to others correctly. The prophets of old were all extremely wise and literate. They were not illiterate fools who didn’t know the difference between a verb and a noun in a sentence. Yet nowadays you have people who do not know the difference between a verb and a noun in a sentence, and English is the only language they can speak, stepping forward and presenting themselves to the masses as master teachers of what the prophets of old wrote. It’s laughable.

Tsor-ay (my Rock) emphasizes and rewards intelligence and the pursuit of wisdom, not stupidity and vain thinking. My Rock has a name.

His name is YA’OH
Always has been. Always will be.
